Can You Lose Weight By Drinking Water?

Drinking Water To Lose WeightWater is one of the most miraculous substances out there. When we are thirsty it replenishes like nothing else and exists all over the world naturally. But most people don’t drink enough water, and in fact, the people that need to drink water the most – those that need to lose weight – simply don’t, or if they do they don’t drink enough. While most weight loss experts have been touting the benefits of water for years, there actually hasn’t been much research done into it until recently. Here are the facts about water and how it helps you to lose weight.

First, water helps to replenish your energy. Think of water like a lubricating oil for your body. It makes all of your organs function better and run more effectively. Staying hydrated not only helps everything in your body run, but it also prevents you from drinking other beverages like carbonated soda throughout the day. The problem with drinking soda is that it contains a large number of calories, that can be harmful to a diet plan. For instance, many people consumer a two liter or soda or more per day, and that can add around 800 calories alone.

Probably the most beneficial thing about water is the fact that it makes you eat less. When you drink a glass of water before you eat, you already feel a little fuller, because there is something in your stomach. Drinking water while you are eating will help you to push away from the table and consume less, and drinking water between meals will cut down on your snacking. Also, there is a study done as part of a BBC documentary on weight loss that shows that eating meals with water, as in a soup, can make you feel full a lot longer than if you ate them as solid, with water.

How Much Water Do You Need to Drink?

You have probably heard expert opinions on how much water you should be drinking to be around 8 glasses a day. But how much is that exactly and it is true for everyone. Truthfully, the eight glasses of water they are referring to, which is eight, 8 ounce glasses of water, or 64 ounces, is what a person at a normal weight should be drinking. For those that are overweight, experts recommend that you add another eight glasses of water per day for every 25 pounds overweight you are. So, a person that is one hundred pounds overweight should be drinking 40 eight ounce glasses of water per day!

How to Make Water More Appealing

Some people really prefer to drink anything but water. They need their drinks to have some soft of a taste. While pure water is best, there are certain additives that you can mix with your water to make it a little more appealing. Try adding a bit of apple juice or prune juice to your glass of water, or any of the powdered flavor packets that are out there. Tea is also a great way to flavor water, as long as you don’t sweeten it with sugar.

  1. no that is to much drinking gallons a day if you do that for a while it will make you gain weight and drinking to much water you could get drinking massive amounts of water (gallons and gallons) can cause a dangerous condition known as hyponatremia (low sodium levels in the blood), which can cause confusion, irritability and seizures and may even lead to a coma.

This condition is very rare in healthy people but can sometimes be seen in the elderly or in endurance athletes who sweat significantly and drink water only to replace lost fluids. Most people should be far more concerned with not drinking enough water versus drinking too much.
